2023-2024 Season Recap
UNCW had two of the best seasons in team history this past year. The team went 7-2 during their 15's campaign and won the Division 2 Southern Rugby Conference Championship. That saw them advance to the national round of 16 where they lost a tightly contested game against a very strong varsity program Norwich University.
In the spring the team transitioned to 7's where they really shined. The Southern Rugby Conference combines all of their divisions for 7's and the Seahawks finished second out of 18 teams behind only D1 Belmont Abbey which is also a fully funded varsity program. Outside of the Southern Conference Series the boys traveled up to play in Sandman 7's at Virginia Tech University. The Seahawks won their pool with notable wins over Virginia Tech, the eventual tournament champions, and the University of Delaware. We would end up losing a very competitive game against the University of South Carolina in the semi-finals. We then traveled to Washington DC to play in the NCR Collegiate Rugby Championship where we went 3-1 and finished 5th in the nation for D2 teams. The only loss at the tournament came to the University of Maine in a game where we had a two try lead but were unable to hang on for the win. Maine would end up going on to win the National Championship.
Our Fall 2024 season is about to kickoff!!! We are excited about the team this year and the tough schedule we have. We can't wait to start our first 15's practice on Tuesday, August 20. We practice Tuesdays off campus at Cape Fear Rugby Clubs pitch. Address will be below. UNCW Rugby finished 5th in the Nation in 7's spring 2024. This is the strongest finish in team History!
